Wain’ © Sneaky PRE-REGISTRATION Rape 101 After receiving alarge number ofhate e- mails, I gotthe impression that a few people were not impressed with the Barn on Halloween night. While the large majority hada good time there were, as always, some complaints. First off, when there is asold out eventand all the people with tickets show up within a half hour of each other a line up is inevitable. Every person has to be checked for I.D. and with everybody wearing masks and make-up it takes a little longer. The behaviour of the people in the line, however, is up to the people in line. The people that butt in line doso under their own discretion, and try as they may the Campus Police cannot do much about it with everything that's going on inside. The Barn will do its best to improve on the areas that need it. It seems you're damned if no one comes and damned if everyone does. If you think rape can't happen to you, you're in for a real education. Statistics show that rape happens more to women in your age group than any other. In fact, this year, one out of six college women will be the victim of rape or attempted rape. Very often by someone she knows. A fellow student. Even a date. And that's a crime. Any time a woman is forced to have sex against her will it's a criminal offense. Rape. It's a subject no one should taken lightly. Charlottetown Victim Services will be conducting a Date Rape Awareness Session in Duffy 121 on Tuesday, November 5 at 7pm. This session is open to all and presented by the UPEI Residence Life Office and the UPEI Student Union. COME WRITE FOR THE PAPER! If you enjoy writing, or you like being involved you may appreciate writing for the Panther Prints. The university newspaper is a necessary news medium, and you can have a chance to contribute to this medium. Think about it, students all over campus will be reading your work, not because they have to but because they want to. There are many bonuses for volunteering news stories: 1) you get your name in print 2) experience at the paper looks good on the resume 3) your parents will brag to everyone how you are involved with —_ student affairs 4) you can get into events at the barn for free (if the line-up _isn't too big) 5) you get to go on lots of fun conferences 6) journalism is just cool, man Soifyou are interested in writing for the paper just come to our meetings on Thursday at 5:00 located in the basement of Main in the Panther Prints’ office. Or if you want more information, please write to CVenema@UPEI.ca. Remember, we are not looking for next Shakespeare. If you canread and write then you meet the requirements.
