With regard to the litical activities of last lorlday we. might content that it ertainly appeared that Jim Lee utpitched Joe Ghiz and got very ood support from his team in e crushing 22-10 Victorv. Due o the wide-margin of victory = Imamth the near future seems ery unlikely, Our other interest 5 situation which .eteriorated so fast and all ur hopes ended quite abrupth n Monday night. We may now njoy the world's series with = detatched view while rooting ' a mild fashion for the Cards. n case the Montreal brass are vondering what to plan for est year we will be willing to onate many suggestions. Prob- ly one of the first would be = suggestion that all players earn to bunt! In soccer we contacted ur Haligonian son with the dvice that he smuld attend loo games last weekend and eport, without delay, the ‘ ins of our victories. The Saturday call was guite unpleas- . ant as he deplored our judgement when recounting our 0—2 loss. We later asked Coach Vincie Mulligan about the game and he commented that we certainly _ did not live up to our potential and everything went right for SW. He also looks forward with the hope flnat we'll meet then again in the playoffs. On Sunday the report was much .- better as Gary Polenz scored ‘ mice in ou 2-0 win. Peter MacDonald was credited with the shutout. On Wednesday (yesterday to our Thursday readers) MOUNT A, (with a 2—2) record will br our opposition and we have every hope for a victory as we look for such players as Scott Neil, Glen Smiley and Tan Hogan to join Gary Polenz in the scoring column. Next game will be here on Sunday 3 October with Acadia. . In Field Hockey our women beat the ladies from Mt.A. 3—0 as Carolyn Drake scored once and the irrepressible Libby Baldwin twice. In Antigonish on Saturday, - Wen we dropped a heartbreaker to St.FX. when we led 2-1 with 30 seconds to go only to have X tie it up and win out 3—2 in the closing moments of the overtime. Mary Chamberlain and Libby Baldwin scored for us. On Sunday we scored first and led 2—1 at the half but the home team outplayed us in the final stanza and won 6-2. At the time of writing we have not received the league statistics but we believe that Libby is the leading scorer. The Lady Panthers travel to Monoton for a game on Friday and will hostess Acadia here at 11:00 on Stmday morning. Coach‘Barbara Mullaly is trying to get 35 minutes of GOOD play from her team instead of the 34.5 they have recently enjoyed! JOC K , TALK ~ We met Coach Donna Sears of. the Volleyball team on campus and she reports that she has 18 candidates to fill the 12 positions on the team. Among the returnees are Joanne MacKinnon, Debbie Gunn and Nancy Keating while Debby Madeloney has left basketball for the volleyball court. Five of our players were on the PEI Canada Games Team. The first game here will be against Acadia on 20 November.~ ;-We haven't contacted George Morrison about his W‘Omenis Basketball team although Sue Betts recently assured they will be good. Since; then, however, we have learri‘edthat high scoring CathyIQChandler decided to stay inICalgary rather than return to A star recruit lost her way in route to UPEI and is now registered at Acadia! Today (we met Velvet Charters, Team Captain, who told us she isgleaVing the lush green fields and red clay of PEI to go to~ the rocky shores of Cape Breton! It was a double blowto our UPEI hopes as ,Tim'MacGarrigle of Panther Basketball is accmmnyimfiher. They will be missed. “Our'l'oss is the . College of .‘Breton's gain. We would suggest that the ' Athletic Depath conduct a contest, first prize— mo seasontickets to all soccer and field hockey games, with suggestions as to how we might attract star players from other colleges to UPEI. The suggestion of a new athletic facility ,y to be ruled out. ’
