Peter and Paul to hear the farewell sermon of their reverend pastor, After High Mass the priest returned to the sanctuary, when one of the ishion- ers advanced to the rail and read the follow- ing address, which was accompanied by 4 well filled purse :— ADDRESS. To Ray. J. C, McLzan, P. P., St. Margaret's. Rev. axp Deak Srr,—It is with the most profound sorrow that we, the parishioners of St. Margare’’s, learn that your connection with this parish is about to be severed. The news, sc sudden and unexpected, we were quite unprepared for, as we looked forward to a long and pleasant intimacy. For the nearly two years you have been our parish priest you have won for yourself our hon love and esteem. From the first you have taken a lively interest in our wel fare, both spiritual and temporal, and it is p3rtieularly gratifying to koow that your labors have bees crowned with success. We are proud to say that, as a result of your exertions in the temperance cause, not a drop of liquor is now sold in the parish, and your parishioners have become # practically tem perance people. It also gives us pleasure to add that by your wise management the finances of the parish are iu a most flourishing condition. And now that you are about to leave us and the inevitable moment of parting has’ come, we cannot withhold our grief. For we feel that an affectionate fr food and @ loving spirit- ual father is about to be taken from us. But while we are moved to sadness at your de- ture, we heartily congratulate those who in future will acknewledge your spiritual guidance. In you they will find a charitable and devoted priest, a pushing and energetic leader in every good work and a stern opponent of vice in a!! its forms. As for ourselves, though we shall no longer acknowledge your fatherly care, we shall always bear in our hearts sentiments of the most lively gratitude for the count- less favors you have bestowed on our be- half, Please accept the accompanying purse as a slight token of our wish you Godspeed in you new field of labor, we earnestly entreat you to daily re- member us in your prayers, as we shall do for you in ours. The reverend pastor made a feeling reply. Gecgraphy—1, P Taylor; 2, G Trainor, } ; and while we | He said that the kind words conveyed in the ;address just read and the substantial purse {presented him. was but further targible evidence of the kindness and goed will stown him on every occasion since he became their pastor. He could treely say that the two years spent ia the parich of St. Mergarct’s was the happiest of his lite. He would alweye retain pleasant memories of the people, and wherever he should be, when offiring up the Sacritice of the Mass, he would not forget the people of this parish. He counselled the people to remain faithful, and if the lessons he endeavored to irstill in their heerts would remain fruitful he would be grateful. The marked feeling manifested by the con- ances showed plainer than words how eenly they felt the loss of their heloved pastor.
