N-(CP) — Re- organization of the non-permanent active militia. is expected to be com- pleted about the beginning of De- camber; and from the first of that month all units tn the 11 military districts will be on the new basis. This was learned at defence head- quarters hore today. On the broader aspects of na- tional defence, the much-discussed proposals for an increased navy and sulwteatlal enlargement of the Royal Canadian Air Force, officials are reticent. Despatches from abroad representing Prime Minis- ter Mackenzie King as returning to Canada with details of a new defence scheme based 0:1 a. co- ordinated Empire poltey drew from them no comment. Militia reorganization, however, was within the authority of those directing the task and, it was said. having regard to the new technique of war, was long overdue. With the economic stress of the past six years, funds for training the non-pa. it militia were whittled down until many units ceased to exist except on paper.
