These visits are the most important events of the year; the arrival of the ship means news from friends ashore, papers to read good things to eat. - But it is a. hazardous undertaking to deliver supplies to Sable Island. The dangerous shoals must. be shun ned, and. often the Lady Laurie:- has to stand off for days until the raging seas subside enough to per- mit a small boat to float. This months trip or the steamer was typical of ioumeys to the Island. On Wednesday‘, February 17, some passengers were landed but the crew found it impossible to move the cargo. Next afternoon the re- maining passengers reached shore and nearly all the supplies were landed. During the last trip, one of the boats was swamlped as it neared the island.
