Then, answering an appeal from the Old English Mastiff Club. a Canadian breeder, Mrs. Hyacinth M. Mellish, of Victoria. British Columbia, sent. over free of charge a thoroughbred dog and bitch her only request being: "let me have two back when you have started successful breeding." Today the first of the two will leave by Trans-Canada Airlines for Canada. The second goes to- morrow. Each animal-a dog and-a bitch-is valued at 820 and they weigh about 110 lbs. Mr. Frederick J. Hawklngs, a member of the committee of the Mastiff Club. said last night: "Except for one which was sent a few weeks ago to the United States, no mastiff has been ex- ported sinee 1940. Mrs. Mellish came to our assistance in a most generous manner. At that time there were fewer than 12 mastlffs in the country. and most of these were too old for breeding. we have done much to restore the breed."
