John Horne, Winsloe( and Was very largely attended. The service wns conducted at the home and grave by Rev. L. J. Wason. The deceased was buried with military honors, a detachment of the P. E. Island Light Horse, of which he was an Omcef. Hiking part. The remains were laid to rest in Sherwood ceme- tery- The pall-bearers were Lea Saunders, Fred Turner, Louis Mcli/lil-i lan and A Curley. DEATH OF ROBERT TAPER.-On Fab. 7th Robert Taper of North Granville, passed to his eternal rest. He had been in failing health for some years and oi` late became grad- ually much weaker until he passed peacefully away at his home on Fri- day last nt the age of 77-. He was a lifelong resident of Granville and was a well-lrnown and highly respected farmer and a devoted member of thc Methodist Church. He leaves to mourn. his widow, four sons. John, William and Tweedie in the United States, James on the farm at home, four daughters, Mrs. John McKay, Granville, Mrs. William Ralston, Mrs; Page and Miss Janet, all in the Unit- ed States. The funeral took place oni Monday, tho remains being laid to rest in Granville cemetery. CLUB.- The Earns- clllle Debating Society held its weekf ly meeting Friday eve ing, the sub- ject under discussion heing resolved that Eastern Canada is a better place to live in than that of the West. Speakers upholding the resolu- tion all gave splendid descriptions of the advantages in the East in com- parison with that of the West. Ed- win Doyle opened the meeting giving a good introduction oi the subject and fnvorlng the resolution, also Gordon McLeod, Lewis Hayden and Bernard Doyle. Then their opponents, closely followed, by showing the pos- sibilities of making a better financial showing, than could be made in the East. Although the speakers favoring the West and nothing to go hy ex- cept what literature gave them, good speeches were given by Harold Mc- Phee, Houghton Mutch, Sidney Mc- Leod. Clarence McPhee, and several others. There was also a goodly num- ber oi listeners. Then the decision was asked for of the chairman, Luke l`raught. It was certainly an able ono, being in favour ol the good auld east. Then a vote of thanks was ten- dered for the good order kept.
