ee IPORTS Sports briefs Women's basketball off to great start; Moore is down and out with season ending knew injury By Billy McQueen The Panthers managed to have a pretty decent season so far. Most teams rank from the midpointto leading positions in the standings. The volleyball team lost a couple of games last weekend at SMU and are currently ranked fifth in the AUAA’s, The men’s hockey team scored plenty of goals against MTA last Wednesday, winning with a final score of 10-4. There were only twelve players on the bench which affected some of the work ethic in the game. Unfortunately, the last three goals scored against the Panthers were in the dying minutes of the game. Some of the Panthers were more concerned with offense and seemed a bit greedy in trying to get some points for themselves -- I thought itwas too bad that Dave Mitchell's goals against average had to suffer because of that. The basketball Panthers had a great home opener last weekend-- the women had a win and a loss and the men had two wins. This weekend at home against DAL, the women pulled off a win after trailing for most of the game. Eiranne Rigby and Jenn Johnston are both on the leading scorers’ board for the AUAA. Rigby holds second place with an average of 21 points a game while Johnston holds eighth place in scoring with and average of 15.3 point per game. The women’s Panther rookies continue to impress with strong defence and offence. The men’s team lost to DAL by a decisive twenty-odd points Friday night. Itwas obviously hard for the men’s team to get into the game after Mike Moore suffered a serious injury. Moore is likely out for the rest ofthe season after a tendon holding his kneecap in place snapped. The team was pretty en after the event; it’s too bad it affected their basketball sense as well. The three point shots weren’t dropping and they kept on shooting . Greg Lucas is the leading point scorer on the team, yet the only way he was getting the ball on Friday was by trying to offensive boards.
