A very large number of delegates and visitors were pre- sent when Mr. W.P.. MacLeod gave the welcome to the church, at the morning session. Rev. J.M_ Sheen, the retiring Chairman, conducted opening de- votions and installed the new Chairman, Rev. J .M. Fraser. At eleven o‘clock, the Modera- tor of the United Church, Right Rev. James S. Thomson, was ac- companied to the church by Mr. Justice Twecdie, chairman of the; Committee on the Moderator’s‘ visit. The Moderator was met at the door by a welcoming com- mittee, consisting of Rev. Dr. AS. Weir and Rev. Dr_ W.A. Mac- Quarrie, both former Presidents of the Maritime Conferenceand Rev. T.A. Wilson and Rev. F.H. Littlejohns, senior members of the Presbytery. INSPIRING ADDRESS . After being welcomed and in- troduced by the Chairman,‘ the Moderator gave an inspiring ad-. dress on the life and work of the church. He had seen much of its work from the Atlantic to the Pacific and was impressed by its, vitality and unity . Following a most enjoyable re- ception and luncheon in the Char- lottetown Hotel, the Presbytery returned to the Park-Royal church for the afternoon session. An outsanding feature of this. session was the reception three new students for the ministry, Mr. Gerald MacLeod of Emerald, Mr. Lane Douglas of Mount ste- wart and Mr. CarlMiller of Trin- ity Church Summerside. Rev. G.A. Cowper-Smith report- ed on the printing and circula- tion of a leaflet, listing United Church services on the Island, for tourists. More will be needed next year.
