The above statement is quite misleading and needs some ex- planation. In the preceding year. as all know, the Province did not have a Prohlbitory law, but the notorious Cullen Amendment. which had made Prince Edward island a laughing stock all over sales reached an all-time high. Ii the 1948 Plebisciie had gone in favour oi Prohibition, what could Government? Probably another Cullen Amendment. or something equally silly. The people of Prince Edward Island are not fools. They saw that the choice lay between a form of Government Control and a poorly enforced Prohibition Act. As a result only about half the people voted at all. The total vote for Prohibition was 7,359, for the Liquor Act 21.934. s total of H.293, whereas the number of eligible voters is over 50,000. The people seemed to feel: “What's the Use?" under the present Govern- merit.
