P _______ § Stylish Sacque Cutter. _ - THE GUARDIAN, QHARLOIWPETOWN, NOVE MBER 5, 1898 Ou- Lohfpr Season. 1 SIR,~~-I notice in your issue of the the 23rd. areport ofa meeting held in Summerside, for the purpose of peti- tioning the government for a change of season, between the points known as Carleton Head and “fest Point. This is a. move in the right direction, but I take the liberty to ask, why are the packers in the above mentioned section to be the favored few. ']`he impression seems to be that the packers east of Carleton Head are satisfied with the present season. I can speak for pack- ers between Black Point and McRae`s Point and they are strongly in favor of a change. The resolution passed asking fora change at Surnmerside meeting seems to be based on obtaining the most remunerative season. Now Sir, this is right as far as it goes, but 1 claim the most remunerative season. is the best calculated to preseve the fish. The packers should not in their greed for gain. be like the dog and the hone and in a few years see one of the most important industries in the dominion sink into oblivion. The time specified at above mentioned meet- ing would be of little or no improve- ment for the reason, that few lobsters are packed before the 15th of May. the last. mentioned date and by giving the lobsters fifteen days or until the first of June. could not fail to be con- be made let it he when it will be in tue best interests of the fish- I claim such ri season should commence June lst, thus giving lobsters fifteen days extra, in which to spawn. and let the packers have aforesaid iftcen days at the latter part of the season. The pack might not be so large for the first season. but in the near future packers would be amply repaid and a sho:-to pack would be a thing of the past. Mr. E. Bell sec ended the motion at the above mei.- tioned meeting, and strange to say, his factory does not come within jurisdic- tion of the proposed change. The es- tablishing of two seasons 'would give packers and fishermen an opportunity to take advantage of both seasons which would be irregular and unjust. lf the season is changed let the change be uniform. putting each and every packet' ‘ on the same footing and justice s hown to all. The gentlemen at the above mentioned meeting seem profuse in their promises to help enforce the fish- ery regulations. But I am of the opio- ion that if the department will not* change the season in hbpe. of fostering the industry. They are not likely to, on the promises of future good behavior on the part of pickers. AN EASTERN PACKi~:Ia. “C §MA ABY My little six~months old girl had Eczema.
