TORONTO TORONTO (CP) — Interest in speculatives waned on the» stock market Wednesday after five ses- sions of rising volumes .and prices. . Profit-taking hit many of the big winners Tuesday and con- tinued today in slower trading. Final volume of 8,124,000 shares was down considerably from yes- terday’s 12,534,000. Consolidated Halliwell was the leading issue Wednesday, adding four cents at 66 on a, turnover of 536,750 shares. New Hosco, the stock that jumped from 17 cents to $7.25, attracted moderate at- tention, losing five cents at $5.65 on 284,093 shares. Tuesday it traded 739,795 shares. The market generally was firmer with western oil-s ahead while goldswere a few decimal points down. Base metals were the big losers. off more than a point. ' Golds were down mainly on the strength of a 1 point loss by Me- Intyre at 78. Most other changes were small. Senior mines were off among base metals. 'Frac tional losers were Consolidated Mining, International Nickel, and Noranda. 1 Calgary and Edmonton was off 1.1; among western oils. The rest of the section however 3 was fairly strong with Pacific Pete, Canadian Atlantic Oil and Central. Del Rio among winners.
