WEATHER: GM reported beautiful sunny weather on May 6th, hot and dry in the mid 20s Celsius, weather like it normally is 1 or 2 months later in year. The very warm days with temperatures to the mid 20s Celsius caused rapid drying of fine vegetation in the first week of May and a rash of escape fires. Conditions changed radically with rain and snow in the second week before a return to hot, dry conditions. Fine fuels again dried quickly and brush fires commenced in the surface root mat and leaves. By early July, only 49 mm of rain had been received at the Harrington weather station and most of this was recorded on June 28th. Larger forest fuels had dried to the levels normally not seen until mid to late August of a dry season (JDM). ANIMAL AND PLANT SIGHTINGS: Compiled by J.
