No insects went to these honeyless flowers. But as soon as a drop of nectar was placed on them they visited them as freely as before. Again, Professor Plateau made artificial flowers with pieces of green leaf, each furnished with a little honey. These were freely visited by insects. But arti- ficial flowers made of colored materiz| were neglected, even when supplied with honey. ‘*In further support of his views Pro- fessor Plgteau is able to bring forwari the following facts as to the habits of insects in visiting flowers: They will pass freely and with apparent indiffer- ence from one color to another of va- rieties of the same species growing to: gether in our gardens; they visit a great number of green and greenish colored flowers; there are many small and in- conspicuous flowers which are also free- ly visited. Such is a brief outline of Professor Plateau’s observations and ex- periments, from which he believes him- self justified in drawing the conclusion that sight plays a very subordinate part in attracting insects to flowers. Their bearing on the theory of the insect origin of flowers is obvious.’’—London Times. FRIENDS PREVAILED A Nervous Toronto Woman Walked the Floor During the Night for Hours at a Time—She Makes a Statement. TORONTO, ONT.—‘‘I was troubled with nervousness. It was impossible for me to keep still andif the spells came | over me during the night I had to get up and walk the floor for hours at a time My blood was very poor and I was subject to bilious attacks, My feet would swell and I was not abletodo my own house- work. I treated with two of the best physicians here but only received relief for a time. I became discwuraged. One day a friend called and advised me to try Hood’s Sarsaparilia. I laughed at thead- vice but I was prevailed upon and pro- cured one bottle. BeforeI used it all I began to feel better. I took several bote- tles and also several boxes of Hood’s Pille. Now I can eat and drink heartily and sleep soundly. Hood’s Sarsaparilla has entirely cured meand also strengthened meso that I now do all my own work. I cheerfully recommend Hood’s Sarsapa- rilla to all sufferers from nervousness, AN ANIMATED PICTURE. —When Ali Ese Fails it Cures—Try it Firet and Sive Exoerimenting. “« Five years ago my little daughter wa- attacked with catarrh of @ verv seve - type. An agricultural editor of Chicago made a trip into southern California where he confidently expected to aston ish the natives with his superior know}- edge of scientific and successful farm- ing. He had stretched things consider- ably one evening with a view to mak ing a stronger impression, when one of the old residents, who spoke slowly and had a squint in his right eye, took charge of the conversation. ‘‘Il s’pose you hain’t heerd o’ my peach brandy orchi’d, mister.
