Claude Ives, Canadian Artillery Training Centre, Petuwawa, and Mrs. Ives, Charlottetown, which 0':- curred in the city Saturday after- noon. He was instantly killed when s lei-r}: steam roller passed over tin loner pert of his body on Vio- tory Avenue, near his home. The boy had been out playing early in ilte afternoon and when his feet became wet went in to hi5 mother to have his shoes changed. He left the house again shortly af- ter two o'clock and went to Vic- tory Avenue where the roller was working on the unpaved street. Ralph Crockett was operating the machine and was running it back and forth on the roadway at the time. His attention was first. attracted when he thought he saw some- thing behind the roller when it stopped. A Bryentori boy, about the same age as the victim, was stand- ing nearby and screamed as the little f illow went under. With the exception of this young boy, there were apparently no eye-witnesses and it has not been definitely es- tabhshed what took place. The roll- er passed over the lower part of the boy's body and stopped when it reached the chest. He was badly crushed and passed away immed- lately. The accident occurred between 2.15 and 2.30 in front of the resi- dence of Mr. Matthew Mahar. Coroner Dr. I. J. Yeo ordered an inquest and the following jury was sworn in: Willard Jordan, fore- man. Arthur Burns, Douglas Mayne. Matthew bee, Frank Lacey, Fred MacDonald and E. F. Acorn. After the jury had viewed the body and the scene of the accident, the in- quest was adjourned until 3 o'clock this afternoon. The boy's father. Lieut.
