All over the country wild fruits are found in varying quantity, but often in lavish plenty, while the list embraces a wide range: Plums, three varities; currants, three; rasp, straw, goose and cranberries, blueberries, cherries in variety and several others. Some of them are so abundnat as to colour the ground, and others are found in plots of several acres each, one farmer in Southern Manitoba having fenced in sever al acres of black currants, while blueberries are so plentiful east of Winnipeg that the Lake of the Woods district shipped last year about one hundred tons west- ward over the Canadian Paciffe. It seems that one of the attaches who came over with the new minister, became desperately smitten with a young lady living a block or so above the legation. She attempted to tegch hin Eng- lish, and he in return fell in love with ler. He told her so, and she said that if he would part with his queue and native dress she would believe him. So off he went, purchased some respectable clothes, and then proceeded to clip off the pride of his life, the queue. This doné he appeared be- forethe ministerand told him. But that aug- ust personage waxed wroth and swore ven- geance on the ‘Mellican galle’ who would dare trifle with a subject of the Emperor's. He immediately sent a full account of the young man’s disgrace to the home depart- ment asking for instructions. A reply will probably be cabled ordering his immediate return. The gallant youth, however, swears by the holy stars that he will never set foot on Chinese soil again, and further- more says that he will commit hari kari in preference. The trifling young lady has been sent away by her parents and will not be allowed to return for a yearor two. Meanwhile havoc reigns supreme at Castle Stewart. the residence of the legation. ———— Apvice to Motrners.— Mrs. Winslow's Soothing Syrup should always be used when children are cutting teeth.
