Too often, we forget in the middle of the rush that this is indeed int- ended to be a season of What? ? ? Dear Cadre: We are writing this letter, to bring to your attention the discrimin— ation exhibited by your- paper. It is a disgrace the way your paper made public ridicule of cer— tain people's physical characteristics. We are referring to lines 22—23 contained in the article J Peace on Earth, Goodwill towards Men. Christmas today means calculated, rather than spontaneous, gift-giving. You think in terms like I will have to get Aunt Ma— tilda something....five dollars should cover it... cousin George of fifteen dollars - let's see what would that be... Does that mean cousin George "Governors Ignore Refer- endum, Act as Bored," which was printed in the Nov 11, 1975 edition of the Cadre. Such a thing is in— excusable. It is enough to make a decent person blush with shame. I am .'sure those involved Ray Shalala (Hey You) and Art Reddin were mortif— ied by such slander. If they do not want to press charges we will contain ' ourselves to this public exposure but if they wish to take the matter to court we offer our supp: ort in every possible way (except financially). Indignantly yours, The Perpetual Society for the Propagation of Proboscises ~IT With 21 Husky! EgadI! The audacityll The outright gallll The nerve of anyone writing about such profanity and open 7=OO am to 1=3O am later on weekends delivery to any residence 50¢ guaranteed hot food pizza, Iasagne submarines and sandwiches is worth three times as much as Aunt Matilda? Only when a giftfibecom-~ es an expression freely given rather than an ob— ligation grudgingly dona— ted will this type of th- ought cease. Until then we will continue to have to give more and more each year until the extravagan— za breaks many families. Already for some it means stringent budgets for mon— ths. Funny that in order to prove their love, we force our closedt friends into this position. It strikesme, too, that a gift to be anything of meaning should express the giver not the receiver. It should be an attempt to give part of yourself to him and thereby enrich his life not just his possessions. Hence a I then placing it the uni— versity paper where all the young innocent, per— haps ever virgin girls . (and boys) can read and be influenced by. The mere suggestion of one hot lady and two Siberian huskies is bad enough, but to add seven sex—or— iented Canadian males and ime 'oi‘ True‘WTGiVing,‘ small hand—knit pair of mittens is Worth in the fuller sense, more than the finest of mink coats. The coat is merely expen— sive, the mittens are pr- iceless. ' ' Perhaps our biggest mistake in the past was to look at the rich man giv- ing his wife that magni- ficent diamond and wish— ing we could afford it to. Now that we can "afford" it perhaps we should dec— ide not to. When we do, we make possessions the -only important medium of exchange in human affairs. Unless we decide that giving of the self is more "valuable" than giving of possessions, then we will never be able to obtain "Peace on Earth, Goodwill‘ Toward Men," Christmas or any other day. ' then suggest to a highly cultured reading audience, the possibilities of what might happen next. This is downright shameful and if I ever see any such suggested filth in this column again I'm not going to read it, so there!!
