Lecture on Irish Life (Continued From Page One) Irish life and a very educative and edifying analysis not only of tlie Irish but alsoof their literature. Mr. Mulligan being a native of Ireland and endowed with the fill- est characteristics of his fellow countrymen is peculiarly fitted to present the subject of "Irish Life and Literature." After giving on insight into tho home life of the Irish people he explained bow lit- erature, poetry, oratory and other arts became the precious posses- sion of-a people. lie instanced what had been accomplished in the realm of art in Ireland, and also portrayed the suffering and the successes of the Irish race.’ Inter- spersed ‘throughout the lecture the touchingly beautiful writings of Irish poets, also folk lore songs and ballads and stories of the fai- ries and the banshees and the ghosts. Not the least delightful part of Mr- Mulligan's lecture were the exceedingly amusing anecdotes of which he possesses a rare fund told in, his inimitable manner. The time he occupied passed altogether too quickly and as the chairman re fllprksd he held the closest atten- titon not only of the pupils but also o sli present from the beginning on the close of his address. A vote of thanks moved by Mr. F, .l. Nash and seconded by Mr. R. H. Rogers, Chief Superintendent of Education in which they expres- sed the sentiments of those present asd nighly complimented the learn- s lecturer was passed amidst en- thusiastic applause. Professor Fletcher was the ac- companist and, he also came in for a word of praise f0; the mariner in which he taught the pupils to sing. After n well deserved word of commendation by the chairman, not only to the lecturer but also to the pupils for their perform- flllces the y: " gs closed with the National Anthem. President of the Canadian. Baggageman Fred Binette of the Canadian National Railways prov- ed a friend indeed to seven ven- turseome passengers on the 5.45 p. in. train out of Montreal to Vauilre- uii. As the train pulled into Dom- inion Station a party of seven pas- sengers, anxious to clip a few iiilii- utea by leaving the train on the wrong side, and crossing the tracks, hurried through. the baggage cnm- partment of the combination car. They_ were about to jump to the ground when Baggageman. Binette caught the sound of an approach- ing train. He rushed forward and thrust himself in front of the men. Theyresented his action but he pushed them back forcibly. At that instant the fast freight thundered by. The passengers blanched‘ at their narrow escape: but for the baggngcniums prompt notion they would have been run down. 0TH SR8 When teaching or working with others, never laugh or make fun of their awkwardness.
