Every Form of Piles Mr. George ‘Thompson, a_ leading merchant of Blenheim, Ont., states :— “I was troubled with itching piles for fifteen years, and at times they were s0 bad I could scarcely walk. I tried a great many remedies, but never found anything like Dr. Chase's Oint- ment. It cured me,” Mr. Jas. It is a treasure to all suffering from piles.” Mr. W. D. A. MACDONALD ~~ Monkey and Medicine. From Forest and Stream. _ I recently had the pleasure of learn- | ing ofa remarkable instance of ani- | mals coming to the assistance of a| wounded comrade, as related by Mr. Haviland, a civil engineer connected with the law department of the N. Y. C.& H.R. R. R. Co. While en- gaged in locating’ a railway line in Mexico, Mr, Haviland ence shot and wounded a monkey which, with a numer of companions, was in a tree At the report of the gun all but the wounded animal disappeared among the branches. ‘The wounded one, ut- tering cries of rain, placed its hand to its wounded side and withdrew it cov. ered with blood and examined it. Its cries brought back its companions some of which also placed their hands their hands to the wound and exam- ined them. Then, they departed, Shortly a'terward returning chewing something (probably leaves), which the applied to the wound. The strick- en animal, holding the leaves in place, was then assisted by its companions in ' making its escape to a place of safety. | _ Somewhat analogous to this is an incident recerded by Mr. H. H. Keays, in notes on mammals collect- ed in southeastern Peru, aud printed in the Bulletin of the American Museum, on this subject by Mr. J. A | Allers. Mr. Keays relates of a' Petuvian monkey. Aéouata nigra: ‘I took his specimen from a band of about fifty. They were the first I had seen, They travelled by swinging from tree to tree. As the specimen | feil dead, the rest of ihe band did not | appear to be frightened by the noise ' of the gun. Two of them dropped down from the tree to the ground | where the dead one lay, picked him up and steod him up against the tree, as though they expected him to climo it. Then they seemed to realize that. he was dead, and dropping him began ! to chatter. Then the whole band took up the cry and scampered off through the treetops. The stomach was partly filled with green leaves.” a | WAKE UP, HALIFAX! We sincerely hope that the pro- posal to make Halifax a great centre for the building of iron and steel skips will not end in mere talk. With our noble harbor and our strategic position for all purposes! of general trade, it would be diffi- | cult to find a point more suitable! for that great industry. We note’ that Mr. William Peterson, head of | one of the large steamship firms of! Newcastle on Tyne, in an interview at Montreal the other day viewed the project favorably, saying that it ' would employ at once two thousand unskilled laborers who might be re- cruited from the general shipbuild- ing business of the province, while | the few experts might at first be | engaged from abroad. Certainly the present seems the psychological moment for those interested in the trade and progress of the city to strain every nerve to secure a defin- ite start in this direction. Delays | are dangerous, and if Halifax is not sufficiently alive to her own inter- ests some othei city will get ahead of her.—The Weslyan. Sole agent for P. E.
