Roger C. Williams, pilot, and Lewis A, Yancey, navigator, determined on the take-off even though heavy fog covered the beach and visibility was restricted to less than a quarter of a mile. The only report of the plane, which took the air at 7.49 p. m. (E. S. T.) was Lieutenant L. M. Melka, o! the coast guard who accompanied the Pathfinder in an amphibian, He lost sight of the Rome-bound plane an hour later, ‘i5 miles off Portland light ship. She was then going fine. Lack of reports of the progress of the silver and green plane did not discourage friends nor Mrs. Gertrude Yancey, wife of the navigator. The fog was general all along the coast.
