It seems that the fasnlons of the
present day are so entirely different
from those of last year that re-
modelling is out of the question.
Skirts are wider and coats are long-
er. The walst-line is normal or be-
low normal, and sleeves are set in
for the most part and come down
long over the hands instead of be-
`lI1z klmono and short. And yet
there are many ways of utilizing
last year’s suit.
For one thing the present fashion
.of using two materials in a suit is
‘most economical. The combination
is fortunate for a silk or wool gar-
ment, because the new combination
is always of silk, satin or velvet,
with wool. Last. year's serge can
be ripped apart, cleanly, pressed
and made up'with either of the ma-
terials named. 'The suit will fur-
nish tunic and 'coat or the longhas-
que waist. The undersklrt. girdle,
and even the sleeves may he of the
new material, and it is better to
take a contrasting color. A dark
blue serge could be combined with
a pretty plaid silk of blue, with a
suggestion of green and gold. This
would be charming for a young girl

tailored straps. two of them, held
by tiny buttons,'give the desired Ilii-

The possibilities of Brussels uct
are numerous. One of llie very pret-
tiest ways ot` using it is as a full
perfectly straight tunic falling over
a silk velvet. to chiffon skirt. it is
especially effective over the heavier
material. The edge is finished with
a velvet band less than two inches
\vide, and the net is used in jumper
effect over :i lace and chiffon waist.

There is a less elaborate method
of utilizing last year’s narrow slit
skirt. The entire skirt can be rais-

pushed back to fall from each sid
of the front. The foundation skirt
can be of a liarmonizliig or con-
trasting color i_n satin or velvet.
