The baby should be offered cool- ed. boiled water between feedlngs Beginning with a teaspoonful dur- ing the first -few days after birth, the quantity oi' water should be gradually increased until the ba-by is taking from 4 to 8 ounces ot water daily. during the latter months of the first year. . -Boil a pint of fresh water every morning, put it in a clean bottle, ,and keep in a cool place. India Rubber for Paper Making. Among the numerous suggestions for utilizing rubber, few are more attractive than the proposal to niukc rubber a constituent of pap er. The means by which this may be successful-ly done have 'been wonked out by n. British inventor, who has made experiments on n considerable scale. 'He uses the actual sap of the rubber tree, which is e liquid with a strong resembl- ance to milk. When this -liquid is mixed with the' material from which paper is made, it -has a remarkable effect in improving the strength and -quality of the paper. A very small tqurintlty of rubber actually enters into the constitution ot the paper; ln fact. one per cent. seems to he about the best -figure. About fourteen million tons of paper are produced every year and It is cal- culated that if rubber were used for half this output lt would absorb most of the surplus -rubber which at present forms an embarrassment. to the whole rubber lndustry. 'The progress of these- British experi- ments ls therefore being watched with the greatest interest. iCurioua- ly enough, the paper is not made waterproof by the amount of riih- ber usually employed, although its finish anti its strength are greatly improved. ‘lt is, however, possible by using more rubber to produce waterproof paper which will be suitable for packing liquid and semi-liquid substances. Experiments have proved that it is _possible to dye paper which has 'been treated with rubber. British Harbor Progress. ` An engineering visitor from the H Cities. il’-Hhl4A|Dl-JLPHIA.
