This had a‘ detrimental effect on the Pflce °l the Nova Scotia product. though it was recognized by the British dealers that both types c! barrel contained the same cublil inches. A Another drawback. the dealers pointethout. was the masher split hoops on the Canadian barrels. which contrasted uniavorably with the neatly dressed containers used by the American growers. These dinerenoes. which to Canadian pro- ducers might seem superficlal, actu- ally made a difference of about two dollars a barnlnon the British mar- ket. i The preparation of the goods, as well as the packallas 8nd file W599 with which they were presented for sale, were brought pointedly tn the‘ attention of the visiting Canadians. n‘, II\ e, Another very important matter was the insistence 'oi the British dealers upon a continuity of supply. The British consumer becomes at- tached ltn some particular brand of goods. and he will not be satisfied with another variety though per- haps equally good.‘ While Britishr dealers are still prejudiced to some extent in favor oi home grown products, this pre- ludlce is tending to disappear. They are now buying from all parts of the world. wherever thTyHn find the quality. "We iound them the best fed people in the world." Mr. Lea de- clared. "because they have the greatest selection. We found in their large wholesale co-operative organizations experts in the busin- ess of buying every “' ". and we found there samples of goods from all over the world. the sight oi which reminded us of one of our larger exhibitions. Possibly two do- zen samples-oi raisins were display- ed from which the buyers made a very careful and discriminating se- lection. Samples of other commod- ities were exhibited in the same manner." DlnIsh Economy In Denmark the careful and eco- nomic farmi methods were par- ticularly not_ by the visiting Can- adians. Great care is exercised in the breeding of livestock and the preparation of all products for mar- ket. The Dllnes are famous for their co-operative methods. The farmers ,. there have all ‘been given special training in agricultural schools and are practically scientists in their business. S0 carefully is the land cultivated that very little of it is used for pasture. In a twenty mile drive to one of their best creamer- ' ies not a divisional line was visible between the farms, showing that the cattle were almost entirely sta- ble ted or pastured on tether. In this warm Danish farmer's land is growing the heaviest and most lu- crative crops: ' .
