but on further inquiry it was learned that
two calves while in the aot of drinking
from low water in a spring wane, it is
supposed, pushed into the puncheon-
which surrounded the spring-by some ot'
the older of their kind. It is not known ‘
the deed through mischief, but it might
have been that they -wished to swell the
water so that they might easier quench
their thirst. However an inquest was
not held.
The regular monthly meeting of the
Snmmerside Town Council held last
night the Mayor andall the Councillors
with the exception of Councillor Rogers
present. Councillor Morrison on behalf
of committee on the painting of market
building reported having closed the con-
tract with Mr. R. E. Sobey topaint the
building with three coats of paint for the
's_\:m of $235. He referred to some criticism
on the part of some citizens in respect to
the contract.Councillor Morris moved that
the report be accepted and the action of
the committee be approved of by the
y Council. Coon. Dickieson was not satisfied
with the report. The committee was
asked tointerview M`r.Sobey and obtain if
`_possiblc a .reasonable reduction. He
thought that two coats would be sumcient.
Councillor Goss was ef the opinion that
the committee dldjustas they were in-
structed IQ the Council. Councillor Morse
moved thtt the committee befgiven
power to Ro ahead w‘th the work.
Councillor Waugh 'move that the report
be laid over until next week.
This was seconded by Councillor
Dickicson. ` Councillor Goss moved
an amendment that the matter be settled
at once. Councillor Morrison, seconded
the motion, which was passed,
Councillors Dickeison  Waugh
voting in the negative; Councillor Goes
moved that the contract be given to Mr.
Sobsy at the figures mentioned
in .the Gommittee’s report. - Motion
iseconded by Conn. Morrison and carried,
Councillors Dickieson and Waugh vot-
ingin the negttive. Councillor 'Dickie-
son moved, seconded by Councillor
Waugh, that Mr. John Crozier be
appointed Inspector of the work. The
motion was defeated. A petition from
M,r.Johu H. Boatee asking that”he be
exempted from the milk vendor’s tax in
