STARTLING NEWS FROM THE SCENES OF THE RECENT BATTLE WITH THE PDERVISHES, im DAILY & XAMINER, - - - The startling news comes from Toski, | and Southport Ferry : the scene of the overthrow of the dervishes, that documents have been found in the abandoned camp of Wad el-Jumi, and upon the dead bodies of the Emirs, which proved the existence of a widespread conspiracy, with its centre among high officials of the ROCKY POINT. town,-— returning 8.30, 10 a. m.; 2 20 p. m. (Ottawa Journal. ) We need Newfoundland, as we needed, but tailed to get Alaska, and as we shall need Greenland. Let us look to the entire uorthern half of this continent and nothing less as the future Canadian Dominion, and breed in it the grandest race of men the world has seen. Already the foundations are laid for this by our pioneer work beneath bracing skys, rugged, often trying, but always toil rewarding. Our very in- ternal problems, our friction of race and creed, faced with the spirit bequeathed to us by forefathers across the seas, will but nerve our brains as our climate hardens our bodies, and Canada will in time Minerva-like spring full-armed and match- less from the forehead of time. We can not and do not want to force Newfoundlaad to join us, but let her distinctly understand that we shall be glad to have her if she i willing. We can afford to take her with all her poverty, all her drawbacks, all her problems. Only let the marriage be one of love. a Do You Drink Ice Water? That cool refreshing drinks in warm weather are delicious is undeniable. That drinking ice water in copious draughts when a person is overheated is injurious, not to say dangerous, is also undeniable. But that the free drinking of water in some form in hot weather mast be avoided, ia deniable, and is one of the greatest popdlar errors extant. When a person is perspiring freely from every pore, a vast amount of water is drawn from the body, which must be re-supplied, or great injury is being done the physical health, and the foundation of some of the worst forms of kidney disease is being slowly, but surely laid. Why ! someone will exclaim, that is just what causes kidney troubles, drinking water freely which contains so much lime. Wrong again ! So long as the water drank is freely carried through the system, and converted in its passage to the naturally acid reaction of the urine and perspiration, no danger can occur by deposits of urea or lime in the kidneys and bladder, because they remain perfectly in solution, and are carried out of the body instead of remaining it. Literally, they are washed out of the body by the copious draughts of water (that most per- tect of all known solulents), same as a series of pipes are ‘‘flashed” with water to clean them. A clean body is never diseased. Do not drink ice cold water, but pure cool water; a little lemon juice will improve the effectiveness. Plain soda water with a little acidis also excellent. lf from drinking too much ice water you have stomach cramps, or are *‘water-logged,” as it is called, or are at- tacked with Cholera Morbus, Summer Com- plaint, Diarrhcea,or Dysentry, do not resort to alcholic stimulating drinks, which irritate rather than soothe and allay the inflammation which has caused the trouble; but adopt the practice of taking daily just before retiring, during July and August, one teaspoonful of Johnson's Anodyne Liniment in a little sweet ened water, which will prevent all such at- tacks and ill effects from ice water. In fact, a little pamphlet, sent free to anyone, bv L. S. Johnson & Co., Boston, Mass., contains a vast amount of information about treating those summer troubles.—dy6i wyli. Summerside Exports. These disclosures serve to explain what has up to this time puzzled everybody here, how the leader of the der- vishes expected to accomplish anything with the insignificant force he brought with him across the desert. It is now clear that he expected to be joined at the Nile by de- serters from the Egyptian army, aided by the Tartars, with whom he had been in correspondence, and by some of the tribes upon whose friendship England had counted. It was quite likely, however, that their plans were to throw off their masks and join Wad el-Jumi after thy had crossed the Nile, and that Col. Woode- house’s determination to prevent their reaching the river at all hazards, and his unexpected success in carrying out his purpose, threw the conspirators into con- fusion and disorganised their carefully laid a. m., 1.30 p. m, Sail Boat leaves Connolly's Wharf,— 4and6 p.1 3 and 5 p. my 8 a. m.; 12.30 and 5 p. m.
