In "The Land of Stinshiiie" they were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clark Capwrll. and in In Just. three weeks time, the Prince Edward Island Music Pes- tivsl for 1054 will begin. As usual. than is an increase in the entry list and extra unions will be held to hear all contestants. Three ad- Judicstors will be working full- time during the week. Festival committees as well as the general public will watch with intaest the experiment in dividing some of the large classes. Sessions will be held in Bum- merside for children from that area taking part in Junior piano and vocal classes. Of the classes included in this arrangement. vo- csl claues will be run oflf in Sum- mersidc on Monday and piano classes on Tuesday. The schedule will be reversed in Charlottetown so that the same adjudicator will hear all taking part in any class. Volunteer committees have been formed in Bummerside to look af- ter many of the details of the sessions there. This new scheme will enable more Prince County competitors to take part. and no doubt will infect the public with the "festival fever" which prevails around Charlottetown during the first week of May. The participants and audiences at the Festival do not realize all the work behind the organizing and running of the Festival. but they also can do their bit to- wards keeping things going smooth- ly. Those taking part should be sure to obeerve Rule 26 in the syllabus: "Candidates using music of their own selection must bring a duplicate for the use of the Ad- judicator”. This is to be given to the Adjudicator‘s secretary before the beginning of the sessions which includes that class. I If all competitors will sit togeth- er ln the front of the hall it is much easier for the Adjudicator to talk to them as 8 group and to give his suggestions about the interpretation of the music they are performing. And one final suggestion for contestants and audiences: Let‘s have perfect quiet in the halls so that all performers can be heard clearly. _.Dorothy Cullen, Convener of Music Committee Acorn and Mr. and Mrs. Cnlm MacPhail.
