WHY ill the painful and serious accident
which occurred to him at Conway on
Monday afternoon Mr. McGowan had
been spending his holidays on the Island
and was shooting at Alberton_ In
f/he lD°1`HiUR he came down to Conway
and later went out driving with a son of
Phillip McKenna, section foreman. One
of the traces becoming detached the horse
started to run. At a bail turn in the road
lhew-l‘l'i~1iI€ was upset against a pile of
stumps. The occupants were thrown out
and Mr. McGowan caught in the wheel.
His left arm was broken near the shoulder,
his left leg broken between the knee and -
hip, and thigh also._ broken. As soon as
assistance arrived he was taken 1_0 the
home of Mr. McKenna. and Drs. McEwen,
O’Leary and Long of Tyne Valley were
S\1U1U10D€d 0-* C|‘liCklY as possible. They
made him as comfortable as they could.
Yesterday he was brought to the City in
COIDDB-HY With his daughter, Miss Elsie,
who is visiting here and .Etieas A. Mc-
Donald who met him at Conway. He was

where, last night, he was reported to be __
