' NEW YORK, April 14 lBps¢l51).... Harris K. Thaw, was brought to this city Thursday on e writ of hab- eas corpus to enable him to testify before the Grand Jury investigating the charges of bribery and conspiracy in connection with an alleged attempt to regain his release from Matteawan Asylum. His testimony occupied the greater part of the morning and af- ternoon seasiona. He was on the stand nearly four hours. 'He was accompanied to the Crimin- al Courts Building by his -mother, by Dr. Webster, of Matteawau; two guards and ‘Roger O'Mara. Both of the guards carried steel boxes con- taining documents, and Thaw him- self carried a large portfolio filled with papers. He appeared heavier than he wus on previous trips here, and his hair appeared decidedly gray, Dressed in a neat fitting gray suit, a green neektle and a green soft hat, 'lhsw presented a dapper appear- ance. _ Previous to entering the Grand Jury room Thaw was taken to the chambers of Justice Banbury, where lie was questioned for nearly .forty minutes by the Justice and Mr. De- Fiord, Assistant District Attorney. Mrs. Thnw wus on the stand first. Her testimony required less than ten minutes, and at ten minutes past eleven Thaw began his testimony. It was said that Thaw was particu- larly anxious to testify, as he was of the opinion that his appearance would aid his efforts to prove his sanity.
