Let's analyze, starting with the East- West bidding: East's double of one was logical, and though West kept silent over South's two hearts, East stuck to his aggressive course. Certain of the folks in fur thought those berries belonged to them. One of these was Buster Beet. Because Buster is one of the big- gest and strongest people in the Green Forest, he thinks that all the llilngs he may want he can take by right of might. Alas, that so many people in the Great World think much the way that Buster Bear does. Every year Buster visits the Old Pasture because in a certain part of it the ground in early suinmer is fairly blue with berries. I al- ways is so a couple of years after the Red Terror -- which is what the furred and feathered folk call fire--has burned over part of the Old Pasture. The low growing bluevberries love to grow where fire has been. In another part of the Old Pasture were the ground is wet, a different kind of blueberry grows on high bushes. Buster Bear knows all about these. too. Buster always plans to get his share of both kinds and usually does. He never feels easy when he lsberrylng inthe Old Pasture because he never feels double was particularly shrewd. He had a very bad hand in most respects, but he did have an asset in his singleton diamond with three trumps. and with his spade holding back of South. Moreover, there was the significant point that when East doubled one no- lrump after spades had already been bid. he was implying strong heart support (the other major suit). If South had passed over the double of one notrump, it would have been West who had to find a bid; and if West also passed, North could escape diamonds.
