The Armed Organizations. 90 (ORE { oa ae rae es aa 0 Ob; he | ,CAaVe Shs xar Diulhe}. Interviews with organizations Ine Ubicago | 5 The bone cave at Shapsday, nea Rut which have arms and ammunition indicate | garvan, in the county of Waterterd, accidentally discovered some twenty years ago, was the first Llrish cave which produced animal remains be- longing to the pleistocene period. In it were found remains of the mammoth, horse, bear, wolf, and reindeer. The explorations of this cave are still going on and they promise to open out a new that they intend tocomply with the State law and disband if unable to secure a license to | retain their arms. The organization of work- | ingmen, some nine hundred strong, trom which some trouble has been anticipated, intend to appear with their arms soon after July Ist, when the new law takes effect, and allow themselves to be arrested, that a test case may be arranged and the constitutionality of the new law decided. ‘The prospect of trouble on | the Fourth of July at Chicago, is therefore era in the pre-historic history of Ire- ’ til d. —o-— © The Cental System. (he cental system, that is the buy ing and selling of grain by the one hundred pounds instead of the bushel, is, we believe the legal sytem in Cana- da: but the law has not yet been adop- ted by merchants or enforced by rulers. The practice of our neighbors, however seems tolerably certain to secure its entorcement very shortly. It was sanc- tioned by the British Parliament last year, and took effect in the United Kingdom on the ist of January, 1879. It has been in vogue for some time in California, and has lately been adopted by the New York Produce Exehange by a vote 717 ayes and 232 nayes. The cental system will be brought into re- quisition as soon as possible, and the Board of Managers will probably fix the date (probably September Ist), after which all transactions are to be made in hundred pounds, or the mul- tiple thereof. All the leading Boards of Trade throughout the country, the Toledo Produce Exchange alone excep- ted, have signified their unqualified ap- proval of the new system. The Toledo iixchange declined to give any reasons for withholding its assent, but after the change goes into effect, it will probably fall in. This will introduce a new stan- dard for the sale of flour, grain and other produce, and will do away with the adversity which now exists. In face of this action at home and in the States it will be impossible for Canada to hold on tothe bushels and barrel mesures; and in view of this fact it is almost time for our Corn Exchang~ ers to be moving in order to secure the adoption of the cental system after next harvest.— Toronto Maih Ploughing by Electricity. For some time past, says a corres- pondent of the Times, interesting ex- peri ments have taken place at Sermaize les Bains (Marne), France, in the use of electricity as a motive pewer, and during the past week an important trial of ploughing by electricity was accom- plished in the presence of various of- ticials. The trial resulted in a complete success. (The plough worked steadily and completely to the satisfaction of all resent.) M.Gourguillion, of Vitry le aici who saw the experiment, speaks of it in the most assuring terms. He says the motion is conveyed to a drum from the electric machine and thence by a coil of wire to a plough. Their was no stoppage of any kind, but the plough did its work steadily, about eight inches deep. The inventor is a M. I elix, owner of a large sugar manu- factory at Sermaize les bains. It may bs many years before this can be brought into profitable practical use, but if it can, what a revolution it will accomplish. If motive power can be utilized from electticity for one thing, why not for another? M. Peronne, of Seamaize les bains, who, writing to one of. the papers, is very sanguine of its ultimate accomplishment, says “it may be utilized in towns and places for industrial purposes—a powerful elec- trical machine might be constructed, and the power conveyed by wire to dif- ferent industries at a moderate cost to those using it.” The correspondent adds that he is unable to say whether the cost of ploughing by electricity is more or less than by steam power, but he thinks it is probably more at ptesent. Harprye, Esq., Brockville, Ont,:— Dear Str—It is now two years since your ‘“‘Censtitutional Catarrh Remedy’ was intro- duced tome. I have waited this ong to see if the cure would remain permanent before do- ing this, my duty, to you, as at first the happy stoote seemed to me to be ‘‘too good to rue.” 1 was afflicted in my head for years before I suspected it to be Catarrh. In reading in your Circular I saw my case described in many par- ticulars. The inward “drop” from the head had become very disagreeable, and a choking sensation often preventing me from lying long, I would feel like smothering and be compelled to sit up in the bed, My health and spirits were seriously affected. When your agent came to Walkertown in August, 1876, I secured three bottles. Before I had used a quarter of the contents of one bottle I found decided re- lief, and when I had used two bottles and a third. I quit taking it, feeling quite cured of that ailment, and have not used any since until of late I have taken some for a cold in my head, A sense of duty to sufferers from that loath- some disease, Catarrh, prompts me to send you this Certificate, unsolicited, with leave to make what use of it yon may see proper Yours truly, W. TINDALL, Methodist Minister. Port Elgin, Ont., Aug. 24, 1878. Ask for Littlefield’s Constitutional Catarrh Remedy and take no other. T. J. B. Harpinc, Dominion Agent, Brock- ville, Ont.
