Mr. and Mrs. Howatt are very highly esteemed as citizens and as faithful members of the church, Mrs. Hewett having at one time held the position of church organist and choir leader. They will therefore be very much missed in both church and community. They have the good wishes of their many friends who trust that they may find a warm welcome from the people among whom they make their future home. The fifty-third anniversary of the laying of thc corner stone of the Tryon United Church was commem- orated recently when a memorial service was held in the church at which Rev. J. W. A. Nicholson of North Becicque was the speaker. The cornerstone was laid on Aug. 1i, i881 by Mrs. W. W. Lord 0f Char- lottetown. The silver trowel which was presented to Mrs. Lord on that occasion and which is now the pro- perty of the church was on display. At the close of the service a social time was held on the church grounds under the direction of the Tnlstee Board. On Friday evening. Aug. 24. the B.Y.P.U. and the YRS. of Tryon held a clam bake on Mr. Stetford Mullins‘ shore.
