: ‘In this age of peace, you must take time to see who - your enemy really is, your neighbour.’’

_ We must start opening our eyes and see who the greatest threat to world peace really is. Itseems

ironic that it is in this time of ‘“world peace’’ we are only now starting to realize that we are living with

_ one of the most murderous and violent nations the

_ world has ever seen. For decades and decades this

_ nation has been instigating aggression, violence and

_ war against and between nations in order to gain

_ power.

Jam nottalking about some Middle East country, or the cld communist dog, but rather our nice next door neighbour. the olde U.S. of A. That’s’s right, that sweet peaceful country down south.

‘January 15th marks the first anniversary of the “*WAR’’ inthe Gulf, where the great UN (a.k.a. USA) was victorious over the ‘‘Hitler-like’’ nation of Iraq. It was during this theatre of conflict that we were finally able to see our neighbours as they ought to be seen. As acountry who lies and deceives its Own people into a fury of hatred against another country to a point where its citizens are willing to die to put the great ‘‘Hitler-like’’ threat down, asa coun- try that forces other countries in to battle along side ofthem.

For months before and during the war we were bom- barded with talk and images of how Iraq had become the great threat to peace, how the country was killing woman and especially children, and how we must step in and stop this injustice.

What we heard was one of the greatest propaganda campaigns the world has ever seen. It is only now, a year later that people are starting to realize what had happened, Sadam was not killing babies (it was re- cently discovered that the reports were staged), pol- luting the environment (it was quietly announced later hat the large oil spill was a result of the American ombings, nota result of the ‘‘environmental terror- st’’ Sadam.), and Sadam was not the gas using Hitler

ve were told he was (he never used the gas in the war).

We can’t blame the press for telling us these false (but very entertaining) reports since the American

government was controlling the press and only telling

them what the military wanted to be told. I guess this is what is what we were suppose to be fighting for, freedom. WRONG! What we were fighting for was the oil. The blood of western civilization. Without it, we are helpless. To make the whole thing look right, the Americans persuaded other countries to stand behind them. (Especially those countries that depend on American money and aid in one way or another. )

The war was only a small and yet visible display of American violence. We must also consider the back- ing the US gives other countries and groups in order to help them fight and the support it gives terrorist groups. We must also remember how American military aid continues to go to countries where human right violations are going on constantly. It was the American CIA that formed the “death squads’”’ in Central America. We should know that the US gov- ernment in 1986 was the first government to licence the international sale of instruments of torture. How

peaceful!

This is only a small example of the kinds of butcherous acts our friendly neighbours are involved in, no doubt there is numerous others. So remember. the next time you go fora stroll, don’t forget to watch your neighbour, you never know what goes on just be- yond the curtains.
