A Statement of the Facts in Conneciion Therewith,

We are asked to contradict a statement contained in a paragraph which appeared in THe Examiner of the 10th of August, in reference to the death of the two-year old child of Mr. John Gill, Union Road. In this paragraph it is stated that the child’s death was due to worm powders “ inadvertently administered in larger than medicinal doses.” The facts of the case, as stated to Tne Examiner, areas fol- iows --—— On Tuesday, the 4th of August, (al- though at this time the child was quite well, with the exception of being troubled somewhat with worms), the father asked Dr. Henderson for something to give the child for worms. On the following Fri lay, August 7th, aniece of Mr. Gill’s went to the doctor’s for the worm medi- ‘ine. Having received i‘, she started on her return home again, and when about an eighth of a mile from the doctor’s resi- dence the young girl, opening the paper containing the medicine, and on which there were nc directions whatever to ind:- cate its contents, noticed that it was some sort of a powder. On Saturday morning the powder was given to the child at about 3 o'clock, and hethen wentto sleep. About an hour and a half afterwards the mother, going to wake the little fellow up, found bim ina half unconscious condition. Supposing that the powder had been too strong, an emetic was administered, which had no effect. Dr. Henderson was at once sent for, andon his arrival ex- pressed surprise atthe condition of the child.

The doctor then being asked if he thought it would be ad- visable to give the ch:ld an emetic, re- plied that “it had goue too far through the system,” referring to the powder which had already been given tothe child, and which he himeelf had given to Mr. Gill’s niece

on Friday. The doctor then inquired forthe rest of the tablets, but on being informed that no iablets had been

received, but that it was a powder, express- ed astonishment at this, saying that he had vent six tablets, wrapped in a paper, and which, he said, could hardly be cut with a knife. Sitting down to the table, he then took a tablet from the bottle he had brought with him, and testing it, found that it broke quite easily. The doctor also remarked that one of the six tablets he sent would be suflicient for a dose. Shortly after the doctor left, on his visit in the forenoon on Saturday, the child rapidly grew worse and he was again sent for but could afford no relief, the child dying about four o’clock that afvernoon. Prospects for

Proressor Rosertson, Agricultural and Dairy Commissioner, left for Quebec aud Ontario by way of Summerside this morning. To a representative of THe EXAMINER he said that accompanied — by Mr. Dillon, he had ¢riven over 250 miles since he janded on Friday evening. Twenty of the cheese factories and two butter fac tories were inspected. Atallof the fae tories, except two of the smallest ones, larger quantities of cheese and butter are now being made than last year. He es- timates the production of cheese on the Island at 2000 boxes more than last season, The price is advancing and the demand in Great Britain is active. The quality of the cheese made in July is satisfactory—:f anything better than any previous year. In reply to a question about winter butter-making he said the outlook for finest creamery butter is good. The position of Canadian Creamery on the English markets is improving every year. The central creamery at Charlottetown will be run from October onwards; and probably a creamery at New Perth also. ihe turnout of butter during the winter at the two places should be about $30,000 worth at least. For the first time since co-operative dairying was begun there is plenty of fodder for cattle—plenty for fed and bedding.

Asked as to the appearance of the coun- try and crops as seen on his journey, he said it was beautiful and the crops were heavy. His words were, “I never travel- led through a more lovely and_ lovable country. The fields are burdened with the luxuriance of growth. Oate, wheat and barley promise prodigious yields, and fields sv free from weeds, with a few exceptions, | have never seen elsewhere on this contin- ent. F.ne cosy farm buildings, lustrous with whitewash aud hopeful content, adorn many scenes where beauty and fruitfulness join iu rich variety. The oft-repeated title ‘Ihe Garden of the Gulf,’ bas been used of late years with a glint of poetic exagger ation and compliment; but this year it falls short of truthful description”.

The people of the Island should now. says Professor Robertson, take up fruit growing with as much enthusiasm as they have put into the dairying movement. They can make as great a success of it in a few years.
