Mr. Smethurst was born and educated in England. He served with the RAF from 1939 to 1946. in Canada and England, and was discharged on demobolizaiion with the rank of Flying Officer. After discharge from the RAF he returned to Prince Edward Island where he was employed with EA. McCourt as a business machine salesman, with J.W. Windsor Co.. Ltd.. as office man- ager; and with the department of fisheries in Ottawa, as ex- ecutive assistant to the minister.
