In our recollection. . . which goes back far too long. . .we do not remember any weekend in which we had the opportunity to see and enjoy no less than four victories. . .and all in the kind of games we most enjoy. ..i.e. ones in

which the Panthers take a

lead from the very start and keep on increasing the margin throughout. Some fans may like to chew their fingernails and agonize but we enjoy the peace of mind that a good lead gives us. Due to some sort of scheduling mixup, we could not see all of both basketball and hockey on Friday night and we'll pass along our hope that the playing times of sports do not coincide in future. . .in this case basketball

started in the Gym at 6:45 and hockey in the Forum at 7:00. These days everything is blamed on a computer so we'll assume it was one of those damn things that caused a ball—L'p.

In basketball our heroes, playing their first ' league home game, whanped Nbunt Allison, jumping to a 14—0 score in the first few minutes and, substituting freely, went on to a 110—64 lopsided win. Dave Arsenault led the way with 29 points while Vlatbush Vince Murray had 20. We would like to add the hard work that local product Colin MacAdam has been putting in seems to be paying off as he is playing with great speed and stamina and had a personal high

of 17 in this game. On Saturday night the Red Raiders from UNB afforded ‘ no more opposition than ' the Mounties had, as our boys administered a 90—58 lesson to a hard—trying but outclassed team. Dave Arsenault was again high ‘ with 20 while Lloyd Pullen had 17. we were pleased to note that U.P.E.I.‘- Athletic Director Ed Hilton's son Marty is on the U.N.B. squad and received a generous hand from the fans. We might add that all the Hilton family were in attendance and we wonder how Poppa Hilton was cheering. It is worthy of note that Coach George Birger is rotating his players much more than any UPEI coach has done in recent years and we were glad to see that many of the local boys, given an opporlumity to play, are performing very well.

Inasmuch as the team seems "Hot" at the moment, it may be unfortunate that

they have no league play until early January, but we understand that-sate very good exhibition games are scheduled in the interim. We do hope that they do not conflict with the hockey team's schedule as we HATE to miss a winning performance and also we have a hard time picking out which sport to see. ...perhaps if we had a schizophrenic personality. . ' In hockey we also enjoyed two easy wins. .. both over a seemingly outclassed U.N.B. Red Devil team. In our travels, we

had been told that they were a raw—meat eating

gang but in both of these games they appeared to be quite mild. In Friday night's game we scored four wavered goals in the opening period and coasted

In Sunday's game it was close tmtil David Cameron went on a scoring rampage that vaulted a

If this keeps up there'll be a "Cameron Day" in Kinkora. Other goal scorers were Wayne Square- briggs (and we enjoyed watching a part of the game with his grandfather) Wilfred MacDonald, Danny Murphy, Iouie Iortie and Terry Devine. These wins vaulted us into 4th place in the league and we' 11 try to improve our stand— ing this weekend as we face Acadia and Saint Mary's this weekend in the Forum. While Saint Mary's (7-0—0) are lead— ing the league by a country mile, we believe that our red—hot, back- to-full—strength Panthers have the best chance of any team in the league to 'hand them their first . defeat of the Season.

team than their league rewrd would indicate. 'Just to prove w”e’—are not PERFECT at U.P.E.I. our girls lost a good game at the U. de ancton 76—67... however they are mostly

sure that the experience of intercollegiate play will greatly improve Barbara Mullally's charges. Frances Dunn led our with 17 while Sharon ' McClure was close behind with 16.

We were pleased to see BillJenkins. & Co, win their curling match on T.V. Sunday with a cone-from— behind' effort by the imperturbable skipper who certainly plays it cool.

This will be our last seession with you before the holidays so we'll wish everyone all the compliments of the season with a special hope that Santa will arrange sate real“ ‘good treats for George Birger and Jack Hynes early in the new year.
