IT’S THAT TIME

AGAIN!

Natural History Society membership renewals are always due in EARLY JANUARY.

Renewal early in the year is greatly appreciated because it saves:

(1) Telephone calls ,

(2) Typewritten reminders, (3) THE AXE, sometimes.

Yes, we must give up on the few persons who do not respond; then we regretfully remove their names from the mailing list.

OPPORTUNISTIC PIGEONS

This scanner while walking down Queen Street in front of the old Moore & McLeod store, I heard what I presumed to be young Rock Dove conversation. I paused on the outer edge of the sidewalk and stood there looking upward. Presently, from behind the rolled—up, awning, the young Rock Dove emerged fully feathered.

Not many days later, I noticed that netting had been placed over the awning to keep flue Rock Doves wt of their fine roosting place.

Not to be outdone, the pigeons sinply moved next door and set up housekeeping behind the red letters of the . Metropolitan sign. There they still present a hazard to unwary pedestrians who fail to read the evidence on the sidewalk and to move over, out of range.

Last spring in Charlottetown a pair of Mourning Doves took advantage of an open window and built a nest between a third storey storm window and the house wind . The householder allowed than to raise a family and leave. When a second pair attempted to use the same convenient glass house, the householder promptly evicted them and closed the outside window.
