Because of sharply rising costs and unrealistic and inadequate student aid, U.P.E.I. and Holland College programs are slipping out of the reach of ordinary Islanders. If action is not taken soon, education will became available only to the richest and luckiest - something that none of us can afford to let happen. |

This election you can help keep education accessible for ordinary Islanders by voting only for candidates who are willing to make it a priority! Any candidate who believes in education will commit to

ensuring P.E.I.'s future by:

1) HELPING students by increasing assistance available under the Provincial Bursary Program. Currently, bursaries are available only to the few students who qualify for a full Federal student loan. This makes Provincial assistance impossible for most students — and a relatively modest increase in assistance to students through this program would help many students who are in severe financial trouble

e INCREASING funding to U.P.E.I. and Holland College. The present freeze on funding mortgages P.E.1.'s future and is an irresponsible education policy. Institutions cannot be expected to maintain present standards under such conditions. Tuition increases are only one of the many ways that students feel the effect of inadequate funding.

Budget deficits are not an excuse to create a human deficit. P.E.I. cannot afford to make post-secondary education impossible for ordinary people! Vote for education this election!

Election Forum ou Education Election Forum on Education -- from 12:30-1:30 PM on Wednesday. March 10th. The event will be held in "The Pit" in the Library and is being organized by the U.P.E.I. Student Union Council. All three party leaders will be speaking on education and then taking questions from the floor. Students, faculty, and anyone who is concerned about education, students, or P.E.I.'s future are welcome. |
