Mr. Percy William Jenkins. aged 62. well-known- floor layer and Canadian veteran of World War One. passed away July is at his home. 24 Lynde street. Maiden, Mes-s.. after a long illness. He had been a resident of Maiden many years and was a member of Faulk- ner Methodist Church. He also belonged to the C”dfellowa and Re- bekahs at Charlottetown. P.E.l. He served as a machine gunner during world War One.

The deceased was born in Pownal. P. 1:. 1., son of Alfred and carrenda (Ferguson) Jenkins. Besides his wife. Mrs. Leslie (Sheldow) Jenk- ins, he leaves a son Ralph at home, two brothers, Wallace of 24 Lynde Street. and Garfield oi Prirrce Ed- ward Island, and a sister, Mrs. Louise Brown of Waltham.

Servicu were held on July is at 2 o'clock at Weir's Funeral Home. 144 Salem Street. with Rev. Wayne L. Hill of Faulkner Methodist church officiating. '

It might be interesting to women readers to learn just how pest generations of Island women made a beet red dye. Here is the recipe:

It is copied from an old note book which came into my posses- ion recently.

"To a gallon of water add five large beets. Boil until the vege- tables lose their color. strain the liquid through cheesecloth. Dis- solve 4 ounces of powdered alum in two gallons of water and soak the material to be dyad in this solution for a couple of hours. When the beet juice comes to a boil, immeme the material and boil for one and a halt hours, turning the material over and over during the process." .

That solved the mystery. Playing about inside the musical nstrument, the mouse caused the strings to vibrate, giving out the soft music I'd heard.

There still lives persons on this Island who believe that a lock of hair from the head of an asth- matic put into .1 hole in a tree and then sealed up will, as the tree grows, deliver the victim from his disease. I have had people suggest this cure in my own case and can therefore vouch for its authen- ticity.

Too, you will run across Island- ers now and then who will tell you in all sincerety that warts can be cured by rubbing them with a piece of potato and then burying it in the ground. Wher the piece of potato rots away the warts too will disappear.
