Charitable activities: in addition to those noted above, the Society contributed Audubon Field Notes to the U.P.E.I. Library and a cash gift for land acquisition by the Island Nature Trust.

Bruce Smith led the Society's intervention to limit nesting by Great Black-backed Gulls at the Hillsborough Pier Tern Colony. It was partly successful but construction disturbance seems to have contributed to nesting failures this summer.

Order: PASSERIFORMES Species: 28-35-315 Family: TURDIDAE - Thrushes

Distribution: Breeds from NW Alaska, through most of Canada to W South Carolina, C Alabama, Arkansas, Mexico to Guatemala. Winters S Maine, S Ontario, Nebraska, Wyoming, S British Columbia and sometimes in P.E.I.

Nest: Bulky structure of plant stems, with mud cup and fine inner lining, low in evergreen (lst nest), or high in deciduous tree (2nd nest). Open areas with trees, forest edges, orchards, and gardens.

Eggs: 3 to 5; blue-green. Usually has 2 broods per year.

Diet: Mainly earthworms but also insects. Fruit and berries from late summer to winter.

Song: Clear rising and falling phrases sounding like "cheer-up".

Call note a vibrant "weep". Also a loud "put-put-put" and flight note a lisping "see-lip" Size: 23 to 28 cm (9 to 11 inches).
