Its not fair, pay your share’

On February 7th that's what thousands of Canadian students will be telling some of the country's most profitable corporations who pay little or no taxes. Canadian college and university students from British Columbia to Newfoundland will by sounding a "budget alert." They are calling on Finance Minister Paul Martin to collect the billions of dollars in outstanding corporate and individual taxes to allay the massive cuts to post-secondary education and other social programs. On February 7, protestors will be informing the general public that there are alternatives to cutting social programs.

“According to the Auditor General's annual reports, billions of dollars go uncollected by the Federal government due to entirely legal tax deferrals and recalcitrant filling," notes Michael Mancinelli, the National Deputy Chairperson of the Canadian Federation of Students. "This is not some kind of ‘accounting phenomenon’ - this is political injustice. It's about time the federal government started listening to its own accountant and started collecting revenues from those who can afford to pay."
