PREPARATIONS FOR THE Scorrish GATHER ixc.—The Caledonian Club grounds present apanimated appearance. The Grand Stand, erected by Mr. Charles McGregor, builder, and the Dancing Boths, are excellent. The Stand specially prepared for the Vice-Regal party will be decorated with flags and ever-
reens. Kennedy's refreshment saloon is also Sine completed. The grounds are to be weil guarded under the supervision of - efficient officers, to prevent the admission of any one except by the main entrance. Last year par- ties were known to sell intoxicating liquors on the roadside adjoining the Club grounds. This should, by all means, be prevented. The Stipendiary Magistrate will, doubtless, ex- ercise his jurisdiction in this matter, and in erder to ensure peace and good order ,will, we presume, adopt such precautionary measures as will prohibit the sale of intoxicants as indicated.

The Lobster Canning Business.

CHARLOTTETOWN, 12th August, 1879.
Sir,—For the information of persons en- gaged in the lobster canning business, I desire you to publish the following telegram received by me from the Department of Marine and Fisheries, Ottawa, in reply to a telegraphic message of inquiry sent by me to the Depart- ment :-

Apart from the question as to whether the close season, as at present ordered by the De- partment, is or is not the proper season for the preservation of this valuable branch of our fisheries; and which, I am well aware, is ques- tioned by those engaged in the business, I would suggest to them that it is their interest to close the factories on the 20th August, be- zause the supply of canned lobsters is already in excess of the demand, and priees have gone down in consequence to little over the cost of production, and any further increase of the a canned, will, most certainly, tend to
ecrease the price of those already canned, so that all that are caught after the 20th of August will go for nothing. Better leave them in the sea for next year. I venture to predict they will be scarce enough in }0 years hence. Your obd’t Servant,

At Detroit City, Michigan, in the 25th year of his age, Edward Morrissey, son of Thomas Morrissey, Newton, Lot 57. Three years ago he left the Island for the State of Michigan. He was on his return to his parents when he took typhoid fever, of which he died after an lillness of twelve days.
