From the top of the arch there waved and fluttered the flag ‘“‘which for a thousand years has braved the battle and two sinalier flags, one bore the inscription, ‘‘ Ha1L 70 rue Cuter,’ and the other ‘‘An DomunuL- rach Urramacu,” or in English ‘‘ The Honorable McDonald”; while across the arch was placed, in large letters, the cheer- ing word ** Wetcome.” On the reverse side of the arch was the McDonald crest, a castle with three towers, an arm and a dag- ger, and underneath the motto, ‘‘ My hope is constant in thee.”’

The ‘‘Sons of the Heather’ have also reasor to feel proud that one, who, for so many years, occupi d the honorable position of Chief of the Caledonia Society, has beer selected as Her Majesty’s representative i this Island.
In welcoming you, we have great pleasure in pointing out to Your Honor’s attention the many evidences of the increasjng materia) advancement of the people of this county, and, from the great interests you have taker in all former Exhibitions, an interest only cquatled by that taken by your predecessor while in office, we believe that Your Hono cannot fail to be much gratified at seeing the eXcellent display of farm produce and manu- factured articles that are exlubited both i: this building and on the Cattle Show Grounds.
We also feel assured that the iarge assemblv you see gathered tozether on this Occasion, will convey to Your Honor the best assurance we can give of the interest taken in om County Exhibitions, and of the increasing prosperity of the inhabitants of King’s County, and that amongst them you will see the faces of many old friends, who hail with delight, the elevation to the distinguished position you now oceupy, of ove, who so long, has been intimately connected with their inter- ests. We feel satistied, from the cfficial manver in which you conducted the important depart- ment over which you so lately had control, that you will m like manner, discharge the duties that your present position will impose, and that you aud Mrs. McDonald’s occupation of Government Louse, will be long pleasautly remembered.

I am delighted to be present at this Exhi- hition and to observe further evidences of th: material advancement of the pecple of King’s County. The large and well tilled fields through which we have passed, the comfort able dwelliogs and commodicus barns on every side + .0w ® marked ‘improvement in the homesteads cf the tarmers iu this section of the country. while the excellent exhibits of horses and cattle, and the display of all kinds of farm produce now on these grounds, and the vast concourse of people attending this exhibition, give the best assurance that our people are taking an intelligent interest in the proper cultivation of the soil and in the improvement of their stock, subjects on which the fature prosperity of this Island so much depends.

The Exhibition was on the whole one of ithe best ever held in Georgetown. The jarticles in the Drill Shed, if not many, ) were choice; and a large proportion of the animals fon the Show Grounds’ were very fine. The show of horses was certain- ly better than ever before. The stallions exhibited by Messrs. Dingwell and Sinnot were admired, and some of the draft filly’s (particularly two by Barrister. which took firstand second prizes) were excellent of their class,
A number of very flae bulls were shown. The handsomest was the Ayrshire Bull of A. J. McDonald, Eq , of Souris West, an ‘animal which would stand ecreditably in any show yard in Canada. The bulls 'shown by Mr. John A. Nicholson, of Com- mercial Cross, and by Hov. James Clow, of
