The list of Conservative Candidates is rapidly filling up : and the greatest enthu- siasm prevails ancongst the Liberal-Con-

Mr. Trevelyan admitted that the Gov- ernment sent simultaneously messages of conciliation and coercion, but pointed out that the miessages were not sent to the same address. He said Earl Spencer had determined in all cases of interference with huts for shelier of evicted persons should be submitted to him before the police were allowed to interfere. Mr. Trevelyan stat- ed that Clifford Lloyd will not sit in any court under the bill (cheers by the Irish), as the powers of the act conld only be ex- ercised by special magistrates.

Mr. Cowen’s amendment, de laring that while the House is desirous of aiding the Government in the detection of crime, it disapproves of the restriction upon free ex- pression of public opinion in Ireland was repealed by a vote of 344 tc 47. The house then went into committee on the bill.
