During the evening Mr. McCraith was presented a handsomely engraved set of re- solutions and a purse of money.

Including the members of the Court there were about forty persons present, consisting largely of the wives and daugh- ters of the me.nbers of the Order. THE FSLAND CHAMPTON

One ofthe clergymen of Summerside tells rather an interesting story of the champion mean man. A few days ago a marriage license was obtained from Mr. William Hunt and the latter informed the clergyman by telephone that he might ex- peet to'perform an interesting ceremony during the afiernoon. Conseqnently the clergyman purposely stayedat home. When the wedding party arrived the groom in- formed the clargyman that there must be an understanding as to the cost of per- forming the ceremony before procedure. The gay Lothario was informed that he could give just what he chose, and the wedding knot was then securely tied. When the clergyman had the marriage certificate filled out and the document pre- pared for transmission to Charlottetown the newly made husband after duly clear- ing his throat informed the minister that he did not think he would pay him anything§ “But,” returned the clergyman, “you do not expect that ] can pay the postage for this paper out of my own pocket.” “Oh, well,” returned the groom, “I wont see you stuck; here is ten cents!” and counting out the ten pieces of bronze he departed with his newly made wife feeling no doubt that he had done the square thing for once in his life. And the clergyman—he tells the story. and with evident appreciation of its mirth provoking aspect, too.—Pioneer.

Osirvuary.—We regret to record the death of Mary McIeaac, beloved wife of Hugh McEachern, of Mount Stewart, which sad event took place on the 20th ult. Deceased was enjoying her usual good health previous to the fire, and on that night she contracted a severe cold, of which she feil a victim. She was of a kind and gentle disposition and much be- loved by all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance,

A Pawret Accimext.—The_ Guardian reports that Mrs. Peters, of Rollo Bay,met with @ painful accident a few days ago. While feeding a pig, the animal bit two of the fingers of her left hand completely off and swallowed them. The same paper estates that Mr. Robert Carruthers, of Car- leton Point, lost a valuable horse recently. The horse ate heartily of some chaff which was thrown outside and then drank a heavy draught ef water.
