Halloween was a fun time (with a capital "F") in the UPEI residences this year. Anyone that participated in the residence events knows what we’re talking about.

To start off the festivities the members of the food committee, namely Jacqueline Halverson, Aeryn Kennedy, Jonathan Seller, Ian MacIntosh, and Greg MacDonald, delivered 60 Ghost-O-Grams to people in their residences. The spooky messages and the large pumpkin cookies (which weren’t orange, but tasted pretty good anyways) were a hit with anyone who received them.

Next the Residence Life Committee had a pumpkin carving contest. Over 40 jack-o-lanterns were entered in this scary competition. All of the prizes went to Bernardine Hallers. The spookiest pumpkin was carved by Lisa Peters. There was a tie for the funniest pumpkin between Taryn O’Brien and Heather Garnett. The ugliest pumpkin prize went to Hedy Urueta-Mazzelli. the Bart Simpson pumpkin by Nicole Thompson won the most creative category. Sue Sweeney had the best overall pumpkin (with a little help from the cafeteria’s salad bar). Thanks to all the students that partook in this contest. A special thanks also to Seaman’s

Points were awarded to all those that participated in the pumpkin carving contest. The Residence Life Participation Pint standings to date (including points received from the deep sea fishing trip, the pumpkin carving contest, and the slogan competition) are as follows:

The food service people also had some neat things going on at the cafeteria on October 31st. Besides having a yummy Chinese food buffet there was a best costume contest, bobbing for apples, and a pin the nose on the pumpkin competition. The best costume prize went to Marla Anderson with her M&M bag impression. Honourable mentions went to Marla’s colourful M&Ms; Anne Curely, Eva Batiz, Aeryn Kennedy, Kim Champion, and Jacqueline. Mary Yule was definitely the best apple bobber when she came up with a real lemon. Michelle Luckie and Tammy Tupper were the winners of the pin the nose on the pumpkin competition, but we all know that they both cheated (they had their x-ray contacts on underneath the blindfolds). A special thanks again to Marriott Food Service for donating prizes for these events.

Halloween day was finished off by a costume party held in Marian Hall. All sorts of ghosts, goblins, and other weirdos showed up for this awesome house party. The ladies in Bernardine Hall had some neat prizes to those who wore the best costumes. Those people were Greg "I Should Have Been Born in the Sixties" Campbell with his "Make Love, Not War" beatnik costume, Sally MacPherson with her jungle woman apparel, and Kevin "Hee, Hee, Hee, Oops" Gallant with his impression of Mr. Christie’s rainbow cookie kid. Honourable mention went to the Jackson Five from Blanchard Hall who did not know their A,B,C’s.

All in all, Halloween in residence was a very eventful day. We all look forward to the next fun- filled, action-packed, and wingding of a day al Christmas time (probably around November 28th). For those of you that haven’t been partaking in these events we hope you now see what you've been missing. Also, for those of you that have been participating, please continue to put life into residence living.
