~A’corres, ondent of the Halifax Her- ald writing from Paardeberg says: “G’ comprny lost very heavily,some five or six being kille | and nine or ten wound- ed. I must here bear testimony to Private A fred Riggs of “G” company, (belonging to Charlottetown.) Alired Riggs was an earnest Christian worker. His rebgion was no puton thing with him. On board the Sardinian, com- ing out, he took an active part in the religious meetings held by Mr. Fuller- ton and Dr. Barrie. He was indefati- gable in asking men to give their souls to Christ, and when he asked it he meant it. He was quite a lad, and his face was illuminated by a bright and happy smile, which only truly- found grace can impart. I remember talking with him on board the Sar- dinian, and he told me he did not think he would ever see Canada again, but he added, “‘all is for the best and Lam guite prepared” These words may seem like so much idle chatter, but if only half the true knowledge of the noble character of Alfred Riggs were khown it could only serve to inspire. There is one thing more about this heroic christian worker I have to tell the people of Prince Edward Island When the body of Alfred Riggs was found it was the body of the British soldier in Africa nearest to the Boer entrenchments. Prince Edward Is- land should well afford some sort ofa niche to perpetuate the memory of one
