“hard work,” is deemed by many to in

clude all other virtues. This, however. is not always true, for many a man

works like a slave, but misses the benefit of much of his word beeanse he lacks system. Then economy, as well as system, is ahabit without which ones hard work may go for naught.

Therefore let the clerk be methodical and econemical, in his masters interest] and‘in hisown. But the man who .ex- peets todo an lionest business nowa

days without hard work, had better go tosome monastry at once; let the clerk keep hiseyes and ears open, too, for

such information as is ot value in busi-

ness, and he will ‘the sooner qualify

himself for promotion to a better pesi- tioa or toa partnership. A person’s education does not cease when he leaves school, but is added to by what he ob-

serves and goes through every day of! his life. I, in addition to attending to these suggestions, the clerk will have a care of his physicai and moral health,we will venture to gurantee his advanee- ment, in due time.

Royal Marriage.

The marriage of the Princess Elizabeth of Hesse to Prince Leopold, hereditary prince to the throne, took anes on Monday, Prince William of

russie, the Czarina of Russia, Crown Prince Fredrick William, the Queen of Denmark,the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge and Grand Duke Louis ot Hesse were present. The bride is the second daughier of the Grand Duke Louis IV of Hesse. She was born on November Ist, 1864, her mother being the late Princess Alice of England. It was her sister, the Princess Victoria, who was recently married to Prince Leuis of Battenburg. in the presence of Queen Victoria. The groom is heredi tary prince ot Anhalt and eldest son of Duke Fredrick of that principal ity. He was born on July 18th, 1855.
