"Protestant Orphanage Work Reviewed
The following report of the P. E.I. Protestant Orphanage for the iyear 1945. was submitted by lady supt.. Miss Eva L. Beer at the recent annual meeting of the trustee board:
"It is my privilege and pleasure to present to you this. my 19th annual review of the daily routine, in the care of our children. The past year brought peace of a kind to a War Weary world. but the greater warfare. “return to nor- mal peace-time living“ is the task of the moment. This institution was not un- touched by the ravages o-fwsr. The boys and girls too who passed through its doors to civilian life gave a good account of themselves four made the supreme sacrifice. The number of children under our care beginning of year was 42-21 boys. l5 girls. We received for care during year 21, 13 girls 8 boys. Total number children cared for during year was 68. 40 boys. 23 girls. For discharge we had Tl. 8 boys. l9 girls. We returned to parents or guardians 13. 5 boys. 8 girls. legally adopted 5. 4 boys. 1 girl. One child to school for blind for l0 months tuition otherwise passed from our care 4 boys. 4' girls, they went to free boarding home care. thus having an cp- portunlty to become useful citi- zens in the communities where they are living. Our chief worry still is the broken home: We havrl one full orphan 19-11 boys. 8 girls. one parent dead.
