On one sideis the following in- scription ; “The Carvel] Challenge Trophy, Presented to No. | Company, Prince Edward Island, 4th Regiment Canadian Artillery, bv F. Parker Carvell, Adjutant, 1896.” Over the

inscription are two crossed rifles and a& wreath cf maple leaves. The same

ornamentation appears over the inscription #pace on the other side of the cup. This inscription space is left blank forthe name of the permanent winner. This trophy was first competed for at the competition Jast fall, Corp!. J. W. McLeod being the winner. We have not Leard the conditions attached to permanent ownership. The cup is to be placed on exhibition in the show window of the Central Drug Store, and it will be well worth calling to see. Adju- tant Carvell has always taken the kindliest interest in the militiamen of the province, and has ever done all in his power to help along this arm of the service. He was for some years Ist Lieut. of No. 1 Company, and was exceedingly popular. His action in presenting the trophy shows that he bas still the kindliest feeling towards the old corps andthe old boy-. The officers and men of the company are delighted with the trophy, and fee! deeply grateful to Adjutant Carvell.

Telephonic advices from Montague! report that Captain Hayes, of the schooner Warren W., has been mis-iog since Friday night last, and it is thought that he was drowned in the river. To-day the river is being dragged, bat uptothe time of writing the body has not been found.

It seems that early on Friday afternoon the Warren W. fisished loading at Rourke’s wharf, about two miles down the river from Montague, and hauled out into tre stream.
