West opened his singleton heart. and when it was all over, South found himself down two xtricks. 1000 points!

In view of the fact that North- South could have earned 1440 points by reaching six notrump. which could have been made with- out great difficulty. the "swing" against them in this deal came to almost 2500 points!

began to beat the air with them. .

His mother had flown under him as if to keep him from falling but It wasn't necessary. for without ever having used his wing bedor-. he was flying. so she flew just ahead of him to a dead tree at the edge of the water. on a branch of this out over the water the young tousle-head managed to ism, Hg was a bit a.wkward.iYou see. that had been his first flight and this was his first landing. He almost tumbled off but got his balance, dug his claws in and held on with all his might. Then he tried to Ionic as if he had been out in the Great World all his life.

Hardly had he settled himself when another tumbled out of am; doorway in the bank. looked as if he would fall clear to the bottom, found his wings. and with hat. Les leading joined his brother in the dead tree. A third ma 3 gom-in tumbled out into the Great world; a fifth and a sixth. It was a. sight to see and it was happening 3-1. most under Rcddyis nose. Another Came 0113. and another. They were followed by two more, over on a limb of the dead tree ten tousle- headed younig Kingfishers sat side by side and demanded something to eat.
